UMO Athletics Celebrates National STUDENT-Athlete Day

This year marks the 31st celebration of National STUDENT-Athlete Day. National STUDENT-Athlete Day honors student-athletes who find the balance between academic and athletic achievement. This day recognizes the positive aspects of athletics and student-athlete contributions in society.

National STUDENT-Athlete Day is generally recognized April 6 nationwide but can be celebrated throughout the months of March and April at NCAA colleges and universities. The day recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes who excel in the classroom, on the playing fields and who give back to their community through service projects.

National STUDENT-Athlete Day was created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) with partnership from the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations. NCAA involvement began in 1994.

"This group of student-athletes positively represent the University in their sports, academic endeavors, and community. It is always nice to highlight the success of those who demonstrate the true essence of student and athlete," said Associate Director of Athletics LaToya Lindsey.

There were 19 National STUDENT-Athlete Day Scholar-Athletes honored, one for each Mount Olive team. The student-athletes being honored must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, be a starter and/or a significant contributor on the team, and be at least a sophomore.
