Trojans Round Out NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive men's and women's track & field team saw seven Trojans earn All-American status during the 2018 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina. Leah Hanle headlined the Championship as she earned two first-team honors while Adam Craig earned first and second-team honors.

RACE NOTABLES
  • Adam Craig got the championships underway for UMO as he got as high as 5th at the 1600m mark but fell three spots once he reached the 2000m mark. Craig continued to fall as the 10000m race continued falling to as far as 14th with 1200m left in the race.
  • The senior pushed in the final laps as he climbed four spots before the finish line claiming a 10th place finish and a 2nd-team All-American for the Trojans.
  • Tai Smith also competed for Mount Olive in his first-ever track and field national championship event and finished 19th.
  • Leah Hanle rounded out the competition for UMO in the women's 10k. The sophomore started off in the pack as she was in 11th at the first marker, but motored up to 2nd by the 2000m mark. After the 4000m mark, Hanle took over the lead at the 4400 mark and held the lead for 2400m when she fell to second. She was unable to regain the lead for the remainder of the race as the finish line appeared for Hanle, but the sophomore came away with a 1st-Team All-American honor for Mount Olive.
  • UMO's men's 4X400m relay team got the Trojans their first All-American honor in a team track event. Richard Fisher, Montre Holmes, Johnny Middlebrooks, and Tedric Shannon finished 10th in the preliminary 4X400 race with a time of 3:11.45 earning a 2nd-team All-American honor.
  • The weekend wrapped up with the men's 1500m and the men's and women's 5000m races.
  • Jonathan Dahlke picked up a 1st-Team All-American honor after coming in 7th in the 1500m race with the time of 3:46.73. He then followed by running the 5000m race to finish 20th in the race.
  • Craig also raced in the 5000m race to wrap up his senior season. He finished the race in 14:12.42 to place 5th out of 20 and pick up another 1st-Team All-American.
  • Hanle finished out the weekend with her second consecutive 1st-Team All-American honor as she finished 3rd in the 5000m in 16:37.02.
  • Hanle, the lone Mount Olive women's racer, with her two top-three finishes in the 5K and 10K helped placed the Mount Olive women's team 16th in the championship.
