UMO Track And Field Begin Indoor Season At Appalachian Open

BOONE, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive track & field teams had a successful showing in their indoor season opener at the Appalachian St. Open in Boone, N.C. Eian Hines and Malak Kafi broke school records and set NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the long jump. Nine other Trojans moved into the UMO top-10 record books at the meet.

WOMEN'S NOTABLES

  • Malak Kafi in her first meet of the year picked up an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the long jump with a distance of 5.68m. Kafi also won the event which helped move her into first place all-time in the UMO record books.
  • In her first meet as a Trojan Princess Lea'e found her way into the top-10 with her 11.30m throw in the shot put.
  • The trio of Candise Lockett, Hannah Glover, and Samantha Tobin also had a good showing in the weight throw as all three Trojans made their marks in the UMO top-10.

MEN'S NOTABLES

  • Eian Hines led the Trojans on the men's side in the long jump as the sophomore not only broke the school record but also set an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark with his 7.23m jump. Hines also won the event.
  • Followed closely behind Eian was his brother Ethan who took second in the long jump with a 7.04m jump.
  • In his first meet, Ivan Lopez-Testillano entered the UMO record books in the triple jump with a distance of 13.47m good enough for 6th all-time.
  • Jawann Washington and Ethan Swenson both moved into the top-10 in the high jump as they took the 5th and 9th spots respectively.

UP NEXT

  • The Trojans' men's and women's track and field teams will compete again at two different meets next weekend; first at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open on December 7 and then the Holiday Open at Christopher Newport University on December 9.
