KINGSVILLE, TEXAS. – The University of Mount Olive men's and women's track & field team saw one earn an All-American on day one of the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Thursday in Kingsville, Texas. The Trojans have two more days of competition to try and add to their all-america title collection.

RACE NOTABLES
- The women's hammer was the first event to get underway for Mount Olive in the national championship as Candise Lockett stepped inside the cage.
- Lockett made good on her first throw with a distance of 48.83m placing her 18th overall after the first round of throws. However, Lockett struggled faulting on her next two throws and failed to make the cut to finals and finished 20th in her first-ever national championship appearance.
- The men's 4x100m relay team secured their spot in the finals after taking first in their heat of the 4x100 and placing second overall with a combined time of 40:58 just: 32 behind the leader.
- Hanle had a case of deja vu from last year's outdoor championships as she finished second in the 10000m earning another All-American title for her career.
- The junior started out fighting in the top-10 sitting 8th after the 2000m mark. Over the next 400m Hanle moved up six places to second, until she took over first place at the 3600m mark.
- She then held that place until the junior was passed with 1600m remaining and was unable to regain the lead and just eluded a national championship.
UP NEXT
- Mount Olive will send the men's 4x400m relay team of Richard Fisher, Arne Leppelsack, Johnny Middlebrooks, and Tedric Shannon to compete in the prelims of the 4x400m. The race will begin at 7:50 p.m. ct.
