Bradon Reitano's Three-Run Homerun Leads Mount Olive Over Shepherd 14-3

Bradon Reitano went 4-for-5 with five RBI and a three-run homerun in the seventh as the nationally fourth-ranked University of Mount Olive wins 14-3 over Shepherd University in the Prestige Appliance Classic baseball tournament Saturday afternoon in Aiken, S.C.

The Trojans (4-1 Overall) got the bats started early as the leadoff batter Jay Gonzalez singled. DeAndre Allen got on after a hit by pitch and Reitano drove in Gonzalez and Allen with an rbi-single and Reitano advanced to second on an error from the left fielder. Rob Shipman kept the offense going with an rbi-single to center field that scored Reitano.

Shepherd (0-2) responded in the bottom half as two singles set-up Ryan Messina's two rbi-double to left field. The Rams inched closer bringing the score to 3-2.

Mount Olive continued its tear for the second straight day scoring more than four runs in the second inning. The Trojans blasted home five runs in the inning which put them in the led comfortably for the rest of game.

Zak Orrison singled to right field to start off the inning and then stole second. Gonzalez was walked and after a double steal, both were in scoring position. Allen knocked them in with a bases clearing double. Reitano singled to left field and advanced Allen up to second. Chase Edwards' two rbi-single added to the Trojans big inning.

Tyler Farmer worked out a walked and one out later Justin Manning scored him on an rbi-single. Mount Olive scored five runs off five hits in the top half of the second.

The Trojans scored one run apiece in their half of the third and fourth innings. The runs came by the power of a Reitano rbi-single in the third and a Manning rbi-double in the fourth.

Gonzalez's two out single to left field started what ended up being a three-run inning for the University of Mount Olive. Allen then walked and Reitano blasted a three-run homerun to give the Trojans a 13-3 lead.

Manning's rbi-double in the eighth was the final run scored for the Trojans as they took the win.

Jordy Farthing (1-0) picked up his first win of the season after working five innings giving up three runs off five hits. Josh Frederick (1) worked a near perfect four innings in relief giving up only one hit and striking out four to earn his first save of the year.

Mount Olive finishes up its last game of the Prestige Appliance Classic baseball tournament tomorrow, when they play the host nationally second-ranked USC-Aiken, first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Then Mount Olive opens up at home Wednesday February 12th when they take on St. Augustine's at Scarborough Field first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
