Mount Olive Drops Series Finale DH To North Greenville

University of Mount Olive dropped the series finale doubleheader 12-1, 5-0 to North Greenville Saturday in Conference Carolinas Baseball in Tigerville S.C. Mount Olive was coming off a 16 inning 5-4 loss the previous night against the Crusaders.

Mount Olive (9-9 Overall, 4-5 Conference Carolinas) was able to keep North Greenville's (17-8, 9-0) offense quiet in the first inning of game one, allowing just a single run to cross. The second inning proved to be the breaking point after three runs had come across, Nathaniel Maggio belted a three run home run giving the Crusaders a 7-0 lead, a deficit Mount Olive was unable to overcome.

The Trojans' sole run of the day came in the top of the fourth in game one. Stephen Wallace singled down the left field line to lead off the inning. Bradley Ragan put them both in scoring position with a double down the right field line. David Mayo singled into right to pick up the RBI as Wallace scored. The threat was eliminated on the next play as a double play put the brakes on the momentum. A fly out ended the inning and with it the Trojans' offensive spark.

Maggio collected another big fly in the bottom half of the fourth this time a two run shot in an inning that saw five Crusaders touch home plate. Mount Olive did not have an answer for North Greenville in game one and fell in seven innings.

Game two did not see a turnaround for the Mount Olive as North Greenville's Ethan Garner held the Trojans to just five out of their six hits on the Crusaders way to shutting out Mount Olive in game two.

Mount Olive returns home to Scarborough Field Monday and Tuesday as they will host Franklin Pierce in two single nine inning non-conference contests. Both games are slated for 6 p.m. first pitches.
