Trojans Defeat Tornado 9-2

University of Mount Olive defeated King University 9-2 Friday night at Scarborough Field. Prior to the game members of the Guardian Brotherhood as well as the Southern Wayne ROTC were honored as part of Wounded Warriors and Military Appreciation night at Scarborough Field.

Mount Olive (19-15 Overall, 11-8 Conference Carolinas) took the lead from the get go as Stephen Wallace doubled home Zak Orrison and Brett Lang as the Trojans took the early lead 2-0. Mount Olive tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the second. Orrison doubled home the first run and David Mayo followed suit with an RBI-groundout. Lang drove home the fifth run of the game with a sacrifice fly. 

King (14-24, 7-12) broke into the scorebook in the sixth as a fielder's choice scored a run and the sole run for the Tornado in the inning.

The Trojans continued to build on their lead as Mount Olive tacked on solo runs in the third and sixth. The final blow came when a pair of runs came across during the seventh inning. 

The Tornado struck for a single run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly, however King was not able to bring home another run as the Trojans closed the door with a double play and took game one of the series. 

Brighton Hudson (4-2) went the distance to pick up the complete game win. He allowed two runs, one earned, off 10 hits and struck out one.

Mount Olive will finish off the series Saturday with a doubleheader set for noon in Mount Olive, N.C.
