Trojans Sweeps King 6-3, 12-6

University of Mount Olive completed a series sweep of King University with a doubleheader victory 6-3, 12-6 Saturday afternoon at Scarborough Field in Conference Carolinas baseball from Mount Olive, N.C. Stephen Wallace led the Trojans with four RBI.

Mount Olive (21-15 Overall, 13-8 Conference Carolinas) opened up game one with a solo home run by Wallace. King fought back to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the third. David Mayo brought Mount Olive back with a two-run home in the bottom of the third to tie the game back up at three.

An RBI-groundout by Ricky Surum and a two RBI-single by Brett Lang pushed Mount Olive ahead to stay as the Trojans took game one.

Bruce Zimmerman (6-3) picked up the complete game win. He allowed five runs, three earned, and struck out six.

In game two Mount Olive opened the bottom of the first on top. Lang and Wallace both doubled home a solo run and gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead. The Trojans tacked on four runs in the bottom of the third sparked by Brandon Day's three run bases clearing double.

A two-run triple by Wallace and and an RBI-double by Joe Koehler pushed across three runs in a five run fourth inning. The fourth inning sealed the win for the Trojans despite allowing a single run in the fifth and two runs in the seventh.

Austin Hutchison (5-2) got the win in the afternoon cap. He allowed six runs, five earned, and struck out eight.

Mount Olive will play host to Virginia State University April 12 at 3 p.m. from Scarborough Field.
