Mount Olive, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive baseball team took an offensive barnburner from preseason nationally 6th-ranked USC Aiken, 12-10, on Friday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.

GAME RUNDOWN
- Mount Olive got to work early in the first as Ricky Surum blasted a two-run home run to left center two batters in, to give Mount Olive the lead.
- Two more runs came home on a pair of throwing errors by USC Aiken and UMO led 4-0.
- USCA added a single run in the top of the second, but UMO roared back in the bottom half.
- Zach Mozingo pushed two runs across on an RBI-single through the right side in what became a five-run inning for the Trojans in the bottom half of the second.
- The Pacers added single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth as the Trojans held an 11-4 lead after five complete.
- USC Aiken brought the Mount Olive lead down to one after a six-run top of the eighth as the Pacers trailed 11-10.
- Jack Sherrill added a much-needed insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly to center.
- UMO shut down USCA in the top of the ninth striking out the side in order to take the 12-10 victory.
KEY STATS
- Senior Bruce Zimmerman (2-0) picked up the win for Mount Olive going five and two-thirds, allowing four runs off 10 hits and struck out nine.
- Zach Mozingo (S2) closed the door striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth.
- Drew Ellis led the Trojan offense with a 4-for-5 two-RBI day at the plate.
- Surum and Mozingo also had two-RBI performances in the victory.
