Mount Olive, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive baseball team picked up a 5-2 win over Lake Erie College Monday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Mount Olive struck first in the bottom of the second as Zach Mozingo led off the inning with a walk. Drew Ellis then moved Mozingo into scoring position with a single to left center.
  • Jose Lopez found the game-opening run as he drove in Mozingo with a double that hit off the left field wall, and Ellis moved to third.
  • Tony Salvaggio pushed across a second run on a groundout as Ellis came home.
  • Following Salvaggio's RBI, Jack Sherrill worked out a walk and Ricky Surum plated Sherrill with an RBI-double to right center.
  • Lake Erie responded in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs, neither of which were scored on a hit, to bring the Trojan lead down to 3-2.
  • UMO added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh off a Gunner Tolston RBI-single through the right side. The runs proved to be enough to hold the Mount Olive lead as the Trojans took the 5-2 victory.

KEY STATS

  • Braxton Shetley (1-2) picked up the win on the hill for Mount Olive as he went seven complete, allowing two runs, off two hits and struck out five.
  • Zach Mozingo (S4) came in to close out the final two innings striking out four of the seven batters he faced.
  • Tolston led the team offensively as he pushed home two runs.
