GAME RUNDOWN

  • Mount Olive fell behind early as Barton jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a home run in the top of the second and a trio of runs that came home in the top of the fifth.
  • The Trojans bounced back in the bottom of the fifth as a walk with one away by Trae Sweeting was picked up with a Drew Ellis home run to bring the deficit to 4-2.
  • The sixth inning saw scoring from both the Bulldogs and Trojans as Barton tacked on a run on a wild pitch in the top half.
  • Jose Lopez recorded his first RBI of the game with a two-run home run to left-center as he came in to pinch hit in the bottom of the fifth. Ellis picked up another RBI with a single to right to tie the game at five. A bases loaded wild pitch gave UMO its first lead of the game 6-5.
  • Barton tied the game in the top of the seventh, but again UMO had the answer in the bottom half with an RBI-double by Lopez.
  • The Bulldogs fought back in the top of the ninth with two walks to lead off the inning causing an RBI-single by Shawn Montren to prove costly as the go-ahead run scored from second.
  • UMO's final set of at bats proved to be the difference as the bases were loaded after a walk to Nate Estes, a hit by pitch to Tony Salvaggio, and a bunt single by Zach Mozingo.
  • Lopez came up and did enough working out a four-pitch walk to plate the walk-off run in Estes, and the Trojans won 8-7.
