Trojans Sweep King After Taking A 6-0 Win In Series Finale

Bristol, Tenn. --- The 9th-ranked University of Mount Olive took the final game of the series 6-0 to sweep King University in Conference Carolinas baseball on Saturday afternoon in Bristol, Tenn.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • The series finale started off as a pitcher's duel as both Mount Olive and King were held to single hits per inning through the first three innings.
  • Mount Olive broke out of the duel in the top of the sixth. Grant Tyndall drew a lead-off walk and following a strikeout, David Mayo singled into left advancing Tyndall to third.
  • Drew Ellis down 0-2 in the count lifted a ball over the outfield fence and cleared the bases with a homerun to give UMO its first lead of the game at 3-0.
  • The scoring drew quiet again until the top of the ninth when the Trojans put up three runs.
  • UMO scored the trio of runs on a Tornado error and a two RBI-triple by Ricky Surum
  • King was able to get two runners on in the bottom of the ninth but the Trojans held the Tornado at bay and took the final game of the series 6-0.

KEY STATS

  • Bruce Zimmerman (4-0) took the win on the mound as he went eight complete allowing six hits, striking out 10, and surrendering a pair of walks.
  • Surum and Ellis again led the team with two RBI and three RBI performances respectively.
