Misenheimer, N.C. --- The 5th-ranked University of Mount Olive took the opening game of the series 7-5 against Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas baseball on Friday afternoon in Misenheimer, N.C.

GAME RUNDOWN
- The opening game of the three-game series started off as a pitcher duel as the Trojans and Falcons were held to six total combined hits, with neither team breaking the tie game.
- In the top of sixth with two outs and runners at the corners, the Trojans struck. Zach Mozingo hit a ball back up the middle and Ricky Surum came home to give UMO the first lead of the game.
- Following a walk, Bradley Ragan drove in a run and on the play a PU error allowed another run to score to give Mount Olive a 3-0 lead.
- UMO tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh, two coming in off RBI-base hits from Drew Ellis and Jose Lopez.
- Pfeiffer added a single run in the bottom of the seventh but added their biggest mark in the eight. The Falcons scored their runs in the eighth on a home run, a Trojan error, and a single up the middle to draw to within 6-4.
- Mount Olive responded with a single run in the top of the ninth and held Pfeiffer to a single run in the top of the ninth to hold onto the 7-5 win.
KEY STATS
- Bruce Zimmerman (5-0) took the win on the mound as he went seven complete allowing a single run off six hits, striking out eight, and surrendering a pair of walks.
- Lopez led the team with two RBI
