No. 3 UMO Baseball Takes 5-2 Win Over Armstrong State

Sumter, S.C. --- The 3rd-ranked University of Mount Olive took a 5-2 win over Armstrong State in non-conference baseball on Monday afternoon in Sumter, S.C.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Mount Olive came out to take the lead in the first inning as with one away Ricky Surum got on base via a hit by pitch and then moved to second on a stolen base. 
  • Zach Mozingo then pushed Surum home on an RBI-single to right center and the Trojans took a 1-0 lead.
  • The Trojans struck again in the top of the fourth on back-to-back RBI base hits from Drew Ellis and Jose Lopez to push the UMO lead to 3-0.
  • UMO kept attacking Armstrong State in the top of the eighth. David Mayo plated the fourth run of the game on an RBI-double and Mozingo scored on a wild pitch to extend the Trojan lead to five.
  • The Pirates attempted to make a comeback with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth as ASU scored two runs on a base hit down the right field line to draw with 5-2.
  • Ethan Horne came in to record the final out on the next batter and UMO shut the door taking the road win.

  • Braxton Shetley (2-3) took the win on the mound as he went five complete allowing three hits, three walks, and striking out three.
