Mount Olive, N.C. --- The 3rd-ranked University of Mount Olive took a 13-4 win over Virginia State University in non-conference baseball on Tuesday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.

GAME RUNDOWN
- Mount Olive came out to take the lead in the first inning as Jose Lopez singled home Zach Mozingo for the first run of the game.
- Virginia State tied the game in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly.
- UMO then jumped out to a 4-1 advantage on RBI base hits by Lopez and David Mayo in the bottom of the third.
- VSU however, again had an answer as the visiting Trojans tied the game on a three-run home run in the top of the fourth.
- The home Trojans picked up a home run of their own with a two-run shot off the bat of Drew Ellis to cap off a three-run bottom of the fifth to give UMO a 7-4 cushion.
- Mount Olive continued to expand its lead with a four-run bottom of the sixth, that featured Trae Sweeting stealing home, and a two-run bottom of the seventh as UMO jumped out to a 13-4 lead.
- Drew Ellis came in from first to pitch the final three outs of the game to seal the win for Mount Olive.
KEY STATS
- Trey Pate (3-0) took the win on the mound as he went six complete allowing four runs off eight hits and striking out seven.
- Ricky Surum led the Trojans as he was perfect in his four plate appearances driving in two runs.
- Lopez (3) and Ellis (2) also assisted with multi-RBI performances.
