Belmont, N.C. --- No. 1 University of Mount Olive fell to Belmont Abbey 3-2 in Conference Carolinas baseball on Friday night in Belmont, N.C.

GAME RUNDOWN
- Mount Olive fell behind in the bottom of the first as the Crusaders led off the inning with a triple. A ground out then allowed Belmont Abbey to plate the first run of the game.
- UMO did find the answer in the top of the third as Trae Sweeting doubled to right center with one away.
- Ricky Surum then drove in Sweeting on an RBI-single to left to tie the game at one.
- The top of the fifth gave UMO a lift as Tony Salvaggio singled past third to open the frame.
- Alvin Swoope then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Salvaggio to second.
- Surum came through again with another RBI base hit as the Trojan shortstop doubled to right-center and Salvaggio scored giving Mount Olive the 2-1 lead.
- Mount Olive put runners in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings but could not push home a run.
- Belmont Abbey pushed back in the bottom of the eighth as the Crusaders had runners at second and third with one away and a base hit up the middle allowed both runners to score and put BAC back on top 3-2.
- The Trojans were unable to mount a comeback as they were retired in order to end the game in the top of the ninth.
KEY STATS
- Bruce Zimmerman (6-1) took the loss on the mound as he went seven and a third allowing three runs, off five hits while striking out 10.
- Surum led the Trojans with two RBI in his 2-for-5 outing at the plate.
