Central, S.C. --- The fourth-ranked University of Mount Olive slipped past Southern Wesleyan University, 5-2, on the road in Conference Carolinas baseball action on Friday night in Central, S.C.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • The Trojans scored first on a two-run homer by senior Ricky Surum in the top of the first.
  • Southern Wesleyan answered in the bottom of the second with a pair of solo shots that evened the game at two apiece.
  • UMO responded in the top of the third as junior Jose Lopez singled to score Surum and push Mount Olive back ahead, 3-2.
  • In the top of the fifth, the Trojans added to their lead as sophomore Carson McCurdy reached on an error and junior Drew Ellis came around to score on the error to put UMO up 4-2.
  • The Warriors threatened in the bottom of the eighth as Southern Wesleyan had runners on first and second with no outs, but could not push any runs across as the Trojans' defense preserved the two-run advantage.
  • Surum added an insurance run for the Trojans in the top of the ninth with his second home run of the day, this one a solo shot, as Mount Olive earned the 5-2 win.
