How It Happened
Play-by-Play
GAME RUNDOWN
- Mount Olive fell behind early as Limestone blasted a solo lead-off home run to begin the game, just as the Saints did in game one of the series on Friday.
- Again a replication of game one of the series UMO had the answer in the bottom of the first. Ricky Surum got on with a one-out double to left center. Drew Ellis pushed Surum home with an RBI-double to right and the game was tied at one.
- Limestone answered in the top of the second with an RBI-double by Jason Shepherd that pushed two Saints across and Limestone took a 3-1 lead.
- The Trojans were finally able to strike back in the bottom of the seventh. Surum was walked to lead-off the inning and ended up at third following a stolen base and a throwing error. Ellis again came up with a RBI as he hit a towering shot to right field that fell in between to Limestone defenders and UMO was down 3-2. Jose Lopez then moved Ellis to third on a sacrifice bunt and Jason Smith drove him in with a groundout to tie the game at three.
- Mount Olive picked up the go-ahead run in an untraditional fashion as Jack Sherrill walked to lead off the bottom of the eighth. A sacrifice bunt and a ground out moved Sherrill into scoring position at third. With Surum at the plate, a wild pitch bounced off the backstop and Sherrill ran home safely to put UMO on top 4-3.
- Limestone was struck out in order in the top of the ninth and Mount Olive took the win and series sweep.
