GAME RUNDOWN

  • Mount Olive came out of the gates firing as Trae Sweeting singled up the middle on the second pitch of the game to give UMO an early baserunner. Sweeting then ended up on third after he stole second and took third on a fly out. Nate Estes drove in Sweeting with a sacrifice fly to center and Mount Olive took a 1-0 lead.
  • UMO added a pair of runs in the top of the second off the bat of Jon Cosme. Cosme's RBI-double drove in Aaron Hedgepeth and Sweeting to extend the Trojan lead to three.
  • Francis Marion found an answer pushing home four runs home in the bottom of the third stripping the lead away from Mount Olive 4-3.
  • The Trojans tried to answer as JT Stone ripped a ball off the center field wall with one away to begin a threat in the top of the fifth. Justin Carroll did not let his teammate down as he brought him in with a sacrifice fly to left and tied the game at four.
  • The seventh inning saw UMO take the lead as Jose Lopez's sacrifice bunt allowed Carroll to score and put Mount Olive ahead 5-4.
  • Mount Olive added an insurance run in their final set of at-bats as Estes scored on a passed ball and the two-run cushion proved to be enough to hold off the home Patriots for the win.
