MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- No. 6 University of Mount Olive dropped a doubleheader to No. 16 Belmont Abbey College at Scarborough Field on Saturday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.

GAME ONE

  • Mount Olive fell behind early as Belmont Abbey scored two runs in the top of the first.
  • The Crusaders continued to add on three more runs over the next two innings to take a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
  • UMO then went on to bounce back and plated six runs on RBI base hits by Nate Estes, Justin Carroll, and Justin Lee and Mount Olive led 6-5.
  • Belmont Abbey, however, took the lead back after pushing home five runs in the top of the fourth and led 10-6.
  • The Trojans were able to add a run in the bottom of the seventh, but could not complete the comeback as they fell in game one.

KEY STATS GAME 1

  • Sam Guckin (1-2) took the loss in relief as he allowed two runs off four hits in his one inning of work.
  • Nate Estes led the team going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

GAME TWO

  • Game two started with the Trojans scoring three runs in the bottom of the second highlighted by a Justin Carroll solo home run and a Blake McLean sacrifice fly.
  • Belmont Abbey exploded in the top of the fourth as the Crusaders scored 10 runs in the inning.
  • BAC then went on to add five more runs in the fifth and Mount Olive had no answer for the rest of the game as the Trojans could only manage three runs for the remainder of the game and fell in game two.

KEY STATS GAME 2

  • Reed Parris (2-1) picked up the loss on the mound in game two surrendering five runs off four hits and struck out four.
