MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- No. 13 University of Mount Olive took a doubleheader from Emmanuel College on the road Friday afternoon in Franklin Springs, Ga.

GAME ONE

  • Mount Olive wasted no time getting the bats going as both Drew Ellis and Gunner Tolston went deep in the top of the first as the Trojans jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
  • Ellis added his second home run of the game in the third to extend the UMO lead further.
  • Following a Nate Estes RBI-triple that score Trae Sweeting, Jose Lopez cleared the bases with a grand slam as Mount Olive pushed out to a 10-0 lead after the top of the fifth.
  • Emmanuel added two runs on a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth but Mount Olive responded by scoring five more runs over the next two innings.
  • The Lions were able to score two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but UMO held off any attempt of a comeback and took game one of the doubleheader.

KEY STATS GAME 1

  • German Reyes (4-0) got the win on the mound as he allowed two runs off two hits, and struck out five over his seven innings of work.
  • Jose Lopez led the team going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

GAME TWO

  • Game two started with the Trojans scoring in the top of the first again this time via a bases-loaded walk to Lopez as UMO took the lead.
  • Emmanuel tied the game up in the bottom of the first on an RBI-double and then took the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the third after a solo home run.
  • UMO bounced back in the fourth with a five-run inning highlighted by a Lopez home run and a Blake McLean triple as Mount Olive took a 6-2 lead.
  • Despite the Lions scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth Mount Olive held onto their lead and extended it in the seventh as the won game two 8-3.

KEY STATS GAME 2

  • Brighton Hudson (5-1) picked up the win on the mound in game two as he allowed three runs off six hits and struck out 11 in his complete game victory.
  • Jose Lopez led the Trojans again in game two as he went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two walks.
