How It Happened
Play-by-Play

GAME RUNDOWN

  • In a game that did not see a lot of scoring Mount Olive had to take advantage when they could and the Trojans did just that in the bottom of the third.
  • Nate Estes worked out a one-out walk to give UMO a base runner and then proceeded to steal second on the first pitch to the following batter Drew Ellis.
  • Ellis then drove in his teammate with an RBI-single down the left field line and Mount Olive took the game's first lead 1-0.
  • Estes became the Trojans second run when he wound up scoring in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch.
  • The Trojans' right fielder reached base via a fielding error by the Erskine right fielder and took second on the play. Estes advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Drew Ellis and then scored on the wild pitch to move UMO's lead out to 2-0.
  • Mount Olive seemed to have the game well in hand but late heroics by the Flying Fleet by way of a two-run home run in the top of the ninth tied the game and put the pressure back on the home nine in the bottom half.
  • A one-out double by Trae Sweeting set up the walk-off bloop RBI-single by Nate Estes as Sweeting slid home safely well ahead of the throw home and the Trojans took the first game of the series 3-2.
