No. 25 Mount Olive Baseball Falls To No. 1 North Greenville In Conference Carolinas Championship

BURLINGTON, N.C. --- No. 25 University of Mount Olive baseball fell 7-2 in the Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship Tournament to the Crusaders of North Greenville University Monday afternoon in Burlington, N.C. The Trojans will now wait to see if they will get an at-large bid the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament to be held in two weeks at a site to be determined.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Mount Olive facing its fourth elimination game of the tournament came out firing as Trae Sweeting was hit by a pitch to give UMO a base runner in the top of the first.
  • Nate Estes then followed up with a single to right moving Sweeting to second.
  • The Trojans then pushed home the first run of the game on an RBI-double by Jose Lopez.
  • North Greenville did not allow the Mount Olive lead to stand for long as the Crusaders plated three runs in the top of the second on two base hits to move ahead 3-1.
  • NGU added another run in the third to extend the lead to four runs.
  • Mount Olive fought back in the bottom of the fourth as they scratched for a run on James Smibert RBI-double that scored Jordan Huntley, who reached with a single through the left side, and the Trojans trailed 4-2.
  • North Greenville continued to expand on their lead tacking on a pair of runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth to move out to a 7-2 advantage.
  • UMO struggled to get any offense going for the remainder of the game managing only two hits over the final three innings as the Trojans fell.
