Trojans Advance In Conference Carolinas Baseball Tournament With 6-5 Win Over Barton

TIGERVILLE, S.C. --- No. 3 seeded University of Mount Olive Trojans took down the No. 2 seed Barton College Bulldogs 6-5 in game six of the Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship Tournament Friday night. Mount Olive advances to play tournament host and No. 1 seed North Greenville Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Mount Olive saw Barton take an early 2-0 lead after two costly plays on a failed pickoff and a hit by pitch.
  • A two-run home run helped extend the lead to four after the top of the third.
  • UMO answered the two-run shot with a Joe Mason bomb in the bottom of the third to draw to within two.
  • Barton once again answered in the top of the fourth with an RBI-double and took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Trojans came back in the bottom half with two runs off a Bulldog error and a wild pitch to make the deficit 5-4.
  • James Smibert tied the game in the fifth with a solo home run to right on the fifth pitch of his at bat.
