How It Happened
Play-by-Play

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Mount Olive started the game off in fashion scoring with one away on a Joe Mason solo blast to right that traveled 359 feet and the Trojans were out in front early.
  • The next to batters made solid contact but grounded out and the inning ended.
  • Francis Marion did not allow the UMO lead to stand for very long, as in the bottom of the third the Patriots struck for two runs to take the 2-1 advantage.
  • A two-RBI single by FMU in the fifth only helped extend the lead to three and Mount Olive did not find a response until the next half inning.
  • Mason singled through the left side to start off the Trojan half of the sixth and Zach Smith followed by reaching on a fielding error by the Patriots to put two runners on.
  • Next up was Junior Snow and he helped the cause with an RBI-single through the left side scoring Mason and drew the deficit to 4-2.
  • Coy Barnett came into pinch hit and continued the rally back with his own RBI-single, this one into center, that scored Smith and the lead was cut to one.
  • Unfortunately for Mount Olive, the rally died after Barnett as the next two batters went down via the strikeout and the inning ended.
  • Mount Olive had an opportunity to take the lead in the top of the eighth as the Trojans had two runners on with only one-away, but a fly out and a line out ended the threat.
  • FMU added an insurance run in the bottom half and with UMO only able to get one runner on in the top of the ninth the defeat was sealed and the Trojans fell.
