Hunter Gore Excels In Coastal Plain Summer League

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. --- University of Mount Olive baseball catcher Hunter Gore is having quite the summer season playing for the Wilson Tobbs in the Coastal Plain League (CPL) with accolades coming midway through the season.

Gore, a Purcellville, Va. native and redshirt sophomore, this season for the Tobs is hitting .222 with two home runs, 15 RBI, 12 runs scored, and five stolen bases. The first-year player for Wilson was selected to the 2019 CPL North Division All-Star team as a DH/UTL joining four other Tobs teammates on the squad.

Prior to the all-star game weekend in Savannah, Ga. the CPL All-Stars took on the USA Collegiate National team in Cary, N.C. at Coleman Field in the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The all-stars were defeated 4-0 with Gore coming in the fifth inning as a pinch hitter and recorded two at-bats.

On July 7 the north division took on the eastern division for a spot in the all-star game final July 8. A close game ended in the bottom of the second when the east put up two runs and shut down the north in the top of the third claiming victory in the short three-inning all-star quarterfinal matchup.

The 2019 season wraps up for Gore and the Wilson Tobs August 3, when they will host the Martinsville Mustangs at 7 p.m. at Fleming Stadium.
