HARTSVILLE, South Carolina – The University of Mount Olive women's field hockey team made history as they played their first competition, since the program was started a year ago, against the Cobras of Coker University Wednesday afternoon. The Trojans fell by a score of 4-0 to Coker in Hartsville, S.C. in the program and South Atlantic Conference Carolinas opener.
Game Information
The Trojans, who played in their first game in school history Wednesday, went to regulation with the Cobras in the first road contest of the 2019 schedule at the Coker Athletic Field in South Carolina.
Trojan Leaders
Mount Olive recorded shots from McKenzie Yi, Eline Udo, and Samantha Bearden, but was unable to find the back of the net.
Victoria Lane (0-1, 0-1) in goal for the Trojans faced 18 shots on goal recording 14 saves playing all 60 minutes.
Cobra Leaders
Coker was led by Kelly Mason with two goals as she was a perfect 5-for-5. The Cobras had complements from Ellie Mead and Lisa Rempt to extend their lead.
Key Moment
The Cobras scored 1:05 into the first quarter to spark the momentum towards the home team and followed it up with a penalty corner goal eight minutes later.
Coaches Comment
"We finally got to play and get our feet wet. This whole experience will help with our growing process. Players now have a better understanding of what to expect and how to prepare for that. This was a good and positive starting point and we will take it from here. Kudos to all the players today," said head coach Daan Polders
