Hines' Near Triple-Double Leads Men's Basketball To 5th Straight Win

Dory Hines came within a rebound and an assist of the first triple-double in school history and Mount Olive extended its winning streak to five games with a 90-78 win over Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas men's basketball Wednesday night in Misenheimer, N.C. Darrell Patterson finished with 25 points to lead four Trojans in double-figures.

Hines had 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists before leaving with the Trojans ahead comfortably in the closing minutes. There have been a pair of triple-doubles in the women's ranks.

Mount Olive (6-7 overall, 3-4 Conference Carolinas) used an 8-0 run in the early moments of the contest to take a 10-2 lead. The Trojans struggled to pull away from the host Falcons. Pfeiffer (3-11, 1-6 CC) used a pair of free throws from Jerod Wallace to give Pfeiffer its last lead 28-27 with 4:19 left in the first half.

The Trojans answered with an 18-7 run to close out the half with a 45-35 advantage.

Despite outshooting the Trojans in the game, Pfeiffer never got closer than eight the rest of the way. The Falcons were doomed by Mount Olive's relentless board work. The Trojans out-rebounded their hosts 52-30, including 24-5 on the offensive end.

A lay-up by A.J. Clark pulled the Falcons within 56-48 with 13:37 left, but a pair of free throws by Dontrell Brite, a jumper from Jordan McCain and a Patterson three-pointer blew the game open.

McCain added 14 points for the Trojans, while Mahamed Ibrahim finished with 10. Matt Ellwood paced the Falcons with 18 points, all from three-point range.

Mount Olive will look to continue its winning streak on Saturday when the Trojans travel to Erskine for a 4 p.m. start.
