Dory Hines Records First Triple-Double In Trojan Men's Basketball History

Dory Hines recorded the first triple-double in University of Mount Olive men's basketball history as the Trojans extended their winning streak to five with an 86-65 victory over Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday at Misenheimer, N.C. Hines, who is the Trojans' all-time career assists leader, finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Mount Olive (13-7 overall, 7-3 Conference Carolinas) broke away from a 15-15 tie as a pair of three-pointers by Dontrell Brite sandwiched around a Jordan McCain three-pointer provided all the points in a 9-0 run and put the Trojans ahead to stay. Mike Moore's three-pointer with 11:03 remaining in the first half gave Mount Olive its first double-digit lead of the game at 31-19.

The margin grew to as many as 18 before Pfeiffer (5-16, 2-9) made a late run as A.J. Clark's three-pointer pulled the Falcons within 41-30 with 2:02 left before halftime. Mount Olive scored the final five points of the half as Dominique Reed's basket with two seconds left gave the Trojans a 46-30 lead at the break.

Ewon Wright's three-pointer 90 seconds into the second half pushed the lead past the 20-point mark and the margin never fell below 17 the remainder of the game.

Hines had eight rebounds and eight assists when he hit 2-of-2 free throws with 12:58 left in the game to reach the 10-point mark. His 10th assist came on Brite's three-pointer with 4:25 remaining. Hines' ninth rebound came on Pfeiffer's ensuing possession and he clinched his triple-double with another defensive rebound with 3:34 remaining.

Hines entered Wednesday's game with four double-doubles this season, twice narrowly missing a triple-double. Hines came within one point of a triple-double November 13 against Wingate and missed a triple-double by three points January 16 against Lees-McRae, a game in which he matched his own Trojan single-game record with 16 assists.

While Hines' triple-double is the first in Mount Olive men's basketball history, he became the second Trojan this season to record a triple-double. Jasmine McDonald had 16 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists December 8 against Virginia Union for the third triple-double in Trojan women's basketball history.

Brite led five Trojans in double figures with 14 points, while Reed finished with 12 points. McCain and John Weiland added 11 points apiece. Mount Olive went 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from three-point range and shot 55.0 percent (33-for-60) overall from the field.

Andrew Guererro shared game-high honors with 14 points for Pfeiffer.

Mount Olive returns to action Saturday as the Trojans travel to Bristol, Tenn., to take on King in a Conference Carolinas match-up. The Trojans fell to King 87-80 in double overtime January 8 at Kornegay Arena. Tip-off is 4 p.m.
