10th-Ranked Mount Olive Extends Best-Ever Start To 9-0 - Trojans Defeat Emmanuel 92-78

Mike Moore and Dominique Reed scored 20 points apiece and Dontrell Brite recorded his first collegiate double-double as nationally 10th-ranked University of Mount Olive extended its best start in school history with a 92-78 victory over Emmanuel College in Conference Carolinas men's basketball Saturday at Franklin Springs, Ga. Brite finished with 15 points and a career-high 10 assists for the Trojans.

Moore hit a three-pointer and scored seven early points to help stake Mount Olive (9-0 overall, 4-0 Conference Carolinas) to a 14-2 lead with 15:12 left in the first half. The margin never fell below nine points and Dontrell Brite's four-point play with 10:26 remaining pushed the Trojans' advantage to 26-13 as the lead stayed in double figures the rest of the way.

John Wieland's three-pointer with 37 seconds left gave Mount Olive a 22-point lead, its biggest of the first half. Emmanuel (1-6, 0-3) answered with a three-pointer by Steven Guinchard with 26 seconds remaining to cut the Trojans' lead to 51-32 at the break.

Luke Miller hit a pair of three-pointers for Emmanuel early in the second half to continue what would be a 10-1 run to cut Mount Olive's lead to 52-39. But that's as close as Emmanuel would get and Wieland's three-pointer with 11:51 extended the Trojans' lead to 70-49. The margin stayed at 17 points or more until the final 60 seconds of the contest.

Jordan McCain finished with 14 points for Mount Olive to give the Trojans four players in double figures. Moore shared game high honors with seven rebounds.

Emmanuel was led by Miller with 16 points.

Mount Olive is idle all of next week for final exams. The Trojans return to action December 15 with a non-conference game at UNC Pembroke. Tip-off is7 p.m. at Pembroke, N.C.
