Trojans Victorious On Senior Night With 74-59 Win Over Erskine

University of Mount Olive took a 74-59 win over Erskine College on senior night for Conference Carolinas men's basketball from Mount Olive, N.C. The Trojans will host a first round playoff game Tuesday against Pfeiffer at 7 p.m. inside Kornegay Arena.

Mount Olive (16-12 Overall, 11-9 Conference Carolinas) fell behind early as Erskine (12-14, 9-11) took a 4-0 lead. Mike Moore picked the Trojans up with back-to-back three-pointers to give them their first lead of the game.

The Flying Fleet's Brannon Dark's layup with 16:58 tied the game at six and started a quick 6-0 run by Erskine. Mount Olive trailed, until Dontrell Brite hit a three-pointer to tie the game again, at 14. The game was tied twice more before the Trojans used a 5-0 run with nine minutes remaining to take the lead for the remainder of the first half. 

Mount Olive extended the lead to as large as 12 off an 9-0 run with under five minutes before halftime.

The second half saw the Trojans remain in control of the lead as the cushion grew to as many as 18 points with 9:33 left in the game. The Flying Fleet were able to draw the deficit down to 10 but could not get the Trojan lead under double digits for the remainder of the game.

Moore led the Trojans with 19 points and had six rebounds. Tayon Gleaves was just behind Moore with 17 points and six boards himself. Brite rounded out the double digit scorers with 14 points and added five assists.

Ray Lock and Dark led the Erskine offense with 21 and 20 points respectively.

Mount Olive will host Pfeiffer University in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from Mount Olive, N.C.
