FIRST HALF

  • The Trojans opened the contest hot offensively hitting seven of their first nine attempts to take a 17-8 advantage with 13:42 left in the half.
  • A layup by Emmanuel cut UMO's lead to just six at 26-20 with 7:54 remaining on the clock.
  • Both teams traded misses over the next two minutes before Emmanuel began to chip away at the Trojans' lead, eventually take a 32-30 lead on a 12-4 run with 3:35 left to play in the period.
  • A three-pointer by Jamaal Matin with 1:15 remaining in the half gave UMO a 37-34 lead that was cut to just one at 37-36 on a layup by the Lions in the final 40 seconds of the half.

SECOND HALF

  • Both teams struggled to pull away in the opening six minutes of the second half as a Lions' jumper cut UMO's lead to 51-50 with 13:35 left to play.
  • After the Trojans' advantage was cut to one, Mount Olive used a 13-2 run to open up a 64-52 lead on Emmanuel, a lead that was insurmountable for the Lions.
  • Emmanuel cut its deficit to ten at 64-54 with a pair of shots from the charity strip with 5:05 remaining on the clock, but UMO once again had a response, running away on a 13-4 run to end the contest and secure a 77-58 victory.

KEY STATS

  • Junior Tayon Gleaves led the Trojans with 19 points and a career-high seven assists.
  • Also finishing in double figures were sophomore Jamaal Matin (17) who added 10 boards, freshmen Saiquan Jamison (14) and Cameron Robinson (12), and junior Emmanuel Patton (10).
  • The Trojans shot a season-high 58% (30-52) from the field to the Lions' 38% (21-56).
  • UMO also set a season-high in three-point shooting percentage with 63% (10-16) to Emmanuel's 8% (1-13)
  • The Trojans edged Emmanuel in rebounds, 34-32.
