CENTRAL, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team defeated the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University 96-72 on Saturday evening in Conference Carolinas action at Historic Tysinger Gymnasium in Central, S.C.

FIRST HALF

  • It took nearly two minutes of the game for the first basket to be scored by either team as the Warriors got on the board first.
  • Following the first basket, the score tied three times, last at nine all (13:49), before the Trojans went on a 14-4 run to take a 10-point lead, 23-13, over Southern Wesleyan with 8:58 remaining in the half.
  • Mount Olive continued to light up the scoreboard as they closed out the final nine minutes of the first half on a 25-16 run, going up by as many as 20 points, before heading into halftime with the 48-29 lead.

SECOND HALF

  • UMO came out of halftime to extend their lead to 28 points over SWU as the score sat at 59-31 with 15:38 to play in regulation.
  • SWU scored six unanswered points to cut the lead to 22 (59-37), before the Trojans pushed their lead up to nearly 30 points, leading the Warriors 68-39 with 12:27 to go.
  • The Trojans held an average of 25 points through the remaining 12 minutes as they defeated the Warriors by 24 points, 96-72.

KEY STATS

  • Freshman Alan Treakle led the Trojans offense with 15 points while teammates Dominique Tham and Darius Spragley joined him in double-digits with 13 and 10 points respectively.
  • Don Pigford, also a freshman, led the team with six rebounds while Spragley led in assists with five.
  • The Trojans shot almost 53% from the field connecting on 36-of-68 attempts.
  • UMO had eight fewer turnovers (12-20) and capitalized on their opportunities to score more points off turnovers (29-11).
  • Mount Olive also had nine more second-chance points (24-15) even though they tallied fewer rebounds (35-41) and the players off the bench contributed 69 of the teams 96 points.
