FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The No. 4 Mount Olive Trojans fell to the Lions of No. 1 seeded Emmanuel College 70-64 on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2019 Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Championship Tournament in the Shaw Athletic Center at Franklin Springs, Ga.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST HALF

  • Emmanuel found the first basket of the contest on a layup but a Darius Spragley three-pointer put the Trojans ahead 3-2 at the 18:15 mark.
  • The Lions took a four-point lead 6-3, however, the Trojans responded with a 6-2 run to lead 9-8 as the clock ticked under the 13-minute mark.
  • A three by Emmanuel gave the host team an 11-9 lead but Mount Olive responded with a pair of threes, one each from Jamaal Matin and Jonathan Mebane, taking a four-point 15-11 lead.
  • The Trojans lead grew to seven points, 20-13, as Matin hit three free throws after being fouled behind the three-point arc.
  • Emmanuel came back to tie the score and claim the lead, 23-22, after a 10-2 run by the Lions.
  • The teams tied the score twice and traded the lead three times before the Trojans took a five-point lead, 34-29, into the halftime break.

SECOND HALF

  • The teams came out of the break trading point-for-point and the lead three times in the opening six minutes as the Lions held a slim one-point lead 40-39 at the 14:53 mark.
  • Mount Olive knotted the score at 42 all before Emmanuel led an 11-2 run that saw the Lions take a nine-point, 53-44, lead at the 6:53 mark.
  • UMO cut the EC lead to five points, 57-52, following their own 9-4 run as Matin hit a pair of free throws with 2:30 on the clock.
  • A layup by Mebane pulled the Trojans within three-points, 59-56, but the Lions went on a 6-2 run making three sets of free throws to go ahead 65-58 with 55 seconds remaining.
  • Mount Olive climbed back within three points, 67-64, of Emmanuel but time ran out for UMO to mount a comeback as the Lions won 70-64.

KEY STATS

  • Jamaal Matin scored 16 points in his final game in the Trojan uniform to lead Mount Olive's scoring front.
  • Darius Spragley and Michael Brown joined Matin in double-figures with 13 and 12 points respectively.
