Trojans Fall 95-63 to Hawks of Chowan University

MURFREESBORO, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team fell to the Hawks of Chowan University 95-63 on Tuesday evening in Conference Carolinas action. UMO falls to 3-4, 0-2, while CU improves to 3-3, 1-1.

GAME INFORMATION
Mount Olive dropped its third game in a row and second straight conference contest.

INSIDE THE SCORE
UMO got on the scoreboard first on a jump shot by Michael Brown. The Hawks countered with a 13-2 run that gave CU a 13-4 lead six minutes into the game. Over the next three minutes, the Trojans climbed within three points, 17-14, following a pair of free throws by Alan Treakle. The teams remained within four points of each other until just after the five-minute mark, 27-23, when the Hawks went on a rally closing out the first half on a 19-2 run to lead 46-25 at the horn.

Mount Olive cut the Chowan lead to eight points, 56-48, at the 11:45 mark of the second half but the home-standing Hawks reopened a lead as high as 32 points that was too large for the Trojans to overcome as they fell 95-63.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Matthias Caver and Jonathan Mebane with 14 points each. Michael Brown tallied 12 points to join the double-digits club. Mebane had a team-high six rebounds and six steals while also shooting 12-13 from the free-throw line. 

CHOWAN LEADERS
The Hawks were led by BJ McLaurin with 23 points. Jaylen Dilliard (18), Trejvon McFail (14), Tahkey Williams (13), and Ja'Darien Wade (10) all joined McLaurin in scoring 10+ points. McLaurin led all players with 15 rebounds including 11 defensive boards. Dilliard went 11-12 from the free-throw line en route to his 18 points. 

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the final five minutes of the first half when Chowan went on the 19-2 rally taking a 21-point lead.
