Brady Hollenbacher tied for second out of 81 golfers and Nick Adams tied for ninth as University of Mount Olive finished sixth out of 15 teams at the Jay Jennison Cup at Slammer & Squire in St. Augustine, Fla. Hollenbacher came within two strokes of matching the Trojan record for low 54-hole score. The tournament concluded Tuesday.
Including the Trojans, the tournament field included nine teams that were either ranked or received votes in the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Preseason Coaches Poll. Mount Olive was tied for the 41st highest vote-getter in the poll.
Hollenbacher carded a 5-under-par 211 for the tournament to tie with Steven Anderson (1997) for the second lowest 54-hole score in school history. Scott Woodard set the school record with a 209 in 2011.
Hollenbacher was the first-round leader with a 5-under-par 67 - tied for the second lowest 18-hole score in school history - and followed with a 1-under-par 71 to enter Tuesday's final round in sole possession of second place. He carded a 73 in the final round to finish four shots out of first place.
Adams overcame a first-round 75 with matching 2-under-par 70's in Monday's second round and Tuesday's third round. Adams' 54-hole score of 215 was only four shots out of fifth place.
Liam McAnally (71-71-79--221) tied for 23rd, Sebastian Andersen (78-76-74--228) tied for 53rd and Jose Ramirez (81-78-79--238) finished 72nd.
Mount Olive carded a team score of 875 for the third lowest 54-total in school history. The Trojans shot 291 in the first round, 288 in the second round and 296 in the third round.
Nationally 14th-ranked University of West Florida posted a seven-shot victory with an 852. UWF's Henry Westmoreland, who entered the final round in eighth place, carded a 66 Tuesday to win the individual title.
Mount Olive is idle next week, then travels to Myrtle Beach, S.C., October 5-6 to compete in the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.
