Mount Olive Defeats Coker 13-6

The University of Mount Olive used a total team effort to defeat Coker College 13-6 in non-conference men's lacrosse Saturday afternoon in Hartsville, S.C. Matt Shields and Stephen Bowlan tied for the team high in goals with three for the contest.

The Trojans (3-1) scored in the last two minutes of the first period as Nico Shewey got the opening goal of the game with 1:42 to go. Cameron Walsh followed him a minute later with the second goal of the game.

Mount Olive added five more goals in the second period. Shields notched two goals in the period. Coker (2-2) responded with three goals to bring the score to 7-3 going into halftime.

Coming out of the break Dan Shields scored with 13:58 left in the third period. Alex Tindall wasted no time as he followed D. Shields with his goal 35 seconds later. The Trojans responded to Coker goal as they added two more goals.

Bowlan opened the fourth period with his third goal of the game. Coker added two goals in the final three minutes, but were not able to make up any more progress as the Trojans secured the win.

Defensively, for Mount Olive Tyler Feniello and James Dimartino led the team with four groundballs a piece. Ross Bowlan, in goal for the Trojans, had 10 saves.

Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as they will travel to the nation's capital to take on the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C. Match time is set for 4:30 p.m.
