Nine-Goal Second Period Lifts Trojans Past Alderson-Broaddus 20-3

University of Mount Olive erupted for nine goals in the second period as the Trojans defeated Alderson-Broaddus University 20-3 in non-conference men's lacrosse Wednesday at Amon Field. Daniel Shields scored a game-high five goals and was among 11 Trojans to tally at least one goal.

Mount Olive (5-1) was up 1-0 when Matt Shields fired a pass from behind the goal to Cameron Walsh, who scored from just above the crease to start the Trojans' three-goal spurt with 6:52 left in the first period. Steven Bowlan added a goal 56 seconds later and Maxwell Bonetti scored with 4:59 remaining to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead after one period.

The Trojans scored three goals in 61 seconds early in the second period, capped by Tyler Feniello, who picked up his own ground ball after winning the face off and drove in for a goal to extend Mount Olive's lead to 9-0 with 11:02 remaining. Edward Hendrickson scored with 20 seconds left and the Trojans went into halftime with a 13-0 lead.

Alderson-Broaddus (0-7) avoided the shutout when Connor Abrams scored from left of the crease with 2:40 left in the third period on an assist by Nick Williams.

The Trojans outshot the Battlers 49-27 for the game, including a 21-7 advantage in the second period.

Mount Olive continues its string of five consecutive home contests Friday as the Trojans play host to Ohio Valley in a non-conference match-up. Game time is 4 p.m. at Amon Field.
