Men's Lacrosse Falls To Belmont Abbey 7-6 In Conference Carolinas Semifinals

Mount Olive, N.C. – The 15th-ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team fell to Belmont Abbey College 7-6 in the semifinal round of the 2017 Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Tournament in Tigerville, S.C. Friday night. The Trojans season comes to an end with the loss.

Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER

  • Mount Olive saw Belmont Abbey strike first 4:15 into the opening half as Liam Kircher scored a man-up goal and gave the Crusaders the lead.
  • The Trojans' Jacob Ball pushed across two goals in the final seven minutes to put UMO in the lead 2-1 heading into the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Eddie Hendrickson gave Mount Olive a two-goal cushion with his unassisted goal with 13:51 and the Trojans led 3-1.
  • Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive each exchanged a goal to finish out the first half and Mount Olive held a slim 4-2 lead at the break.

THIRD QUARTER

  • UMO senior Brett Kingston scored to begin the third quarter as he collected a pass from Gunner Parson and found the back of the net with 10:06 remaining.
  • Following a Crusader goal, Parson found the back of the net himself at the 6:09 mark and the freshman gave UMO its largest lead of the game at 6-3.
  • Belmont Abbey had the answer with just over five minutes left in the third as Adam Wiedemann scored to trim to two.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • The final quarter saw the Trojans offense stall as Belmont Abbey scored the only goals of the quarter and with the three goals in the fourth, the Crusaders surpassed Mount Olive for the 7-6 victory ending the Trojans season.

KEY STATS

  • Ball led the Trojans with two goals. Four other Trojans recorded a goal in the contest.
  • Between the posts, Urban (L: 11-4) took the loss, making 19 saves on 26.
