#16 UMO Men's Lacrosse Wins Big On Senior Day 20-3 Over Emmanuel

Mount Olive, N.C. – The 16th-ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated the Lions of Emmanuel College 20-3 in Conference Carolinas competition Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Ray McDonald Sr. Track and Field/Lacrosse Complex in Mount Olive, N.C. Prior to the game Jacob Ball, Austin Betros, Luke Dalman, Cole Groebner, Skyler King, Matt Lewis, Dylan Lowenstein, and Will Urban were all honored as part of Senior Day. UMO also won the Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship with the win, the championship was the first for the Trojans in program history.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER

  • Mount Olive took the early momentum as Cody Graden scored the first goal of the game for the Trojans with 13:21.
  • UMO then went on a four-goal run with goals by Jacob Ball, Cody Graden, Lucas Shien, and Brody Sullivan to extend to a 5-0 lead.
  • Emmanuel stopped the bleeding momentarily with a goal with 8:11.
  • Sullivan started another run for UMO with 7:38 left in the first quarter as the Trojans pushed home four more goals to take a 9-1 lead into the second. 

SECOND QUARTER

  • Mount Olive scored again with 13:11 as Sullivan struck again off a Connor Watson assist to give UMO a nine-goal lead.
  • Watson got on the board himself with 9:16 left in the quarter as Jacob Ball found the freshman for the goal.
  • The Lions once again found a strike to make the deficit 11-2 with 7:42 left before halftime.
  • Tyler Keele and Sullivan added two more scores for UMO to close out the half as the Trojans led 13-2 at the break.

THIRD QUARTER

FOURTH QUARTER

  • The final quarter was started in style as senior defender Austin Betros scored the first goal of his UMO career on his senior day with 13:50 left in the quarter off a pass from Connor Watson and Mount Olive went up 17-2.
  • Emmanuel answered with a goal two minutes later, but the Trojans answered back with three goals of their own by Watson, Luke Dalman, and Zach Ruettgers to close out the game 20-3.

Mount Olive with the win has secured a three-way tie for the Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship with Limestone and Belmont Abbey. The title is the first one for the Trojans in program history. The Trojans by virtue of a coin toss will be the #2 seed in the Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship and have a first-round bye to the semifinals. Mount Olive will play the winner of the Belmont Abbey/Lees-McRae match scheduled for April 24 and will play their semifinals match on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. in Tigerville, S.C.
