No. 13 Mount Olive Blows Out Emmanuel 19-3 In Conference Carolinas Battle

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The 13th-ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated the Lions of Emmanuel College 19-3 in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at the Stephens Athletic Complex in Franklin Springs, Ga.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER

  • Mount Olive lost the opening faceoff but did not falter as they found the opening score with 13:59 left in the opening quarter.
  • The Trojans then went on a big run, scoring six straight goals to end the first taking a 7-0 lead.
  • In the quarter UMO saw scores from Lucas Shein, Gunner Parson, Tyler Keele, Blake Tallon, Connor Watson, and Nick Peterson.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Mount Olive continued their run in the second quarter as Braydon Hickey scored 1:10 into the frame extending the lead to eight.
  • Peterson and Tim De Ceuster continued the explosive 10-0 run by the Trojans with goals at the 11:10 mark and 10:05 marks respectively.
  • Emmanuel eventually found a hole in the almost impenetrable UMO defense with 5:56 left in the second and trailed 10-1.
  • De Ceuster closed out the half with another UMO score to re-extend the Trojans' lead to double digits.

THIRD QUARTER

  • Mount Olive won the third quarter as well scoring the first three goals of the frame on a man-up goal with 13:31 remaining and then tacking on two more with 9:02 and 8:29.
  • The Lions found an answer with two goals back-to-back with around five and a half left and decreased the deficit to 14-3.
  • However, as it had been all game Mount Olive closed out the quarter with the final score, this time two goals, one by Keele and a second by Nathan Bradley.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • The final quarter saw the lowest scoring all game as Mount Olive pushed home three goals to close out the game and win by the final of 19-3.

KEY STATS

  • Nick Peterson led the Trojans with three goals and also picked up two groundballs and forced two turnovers.
  • Andrew Avarello (W: 10-2) played 30 minutes between the pipes made four saves and on five shots faced.
  • UMO's 19 goals scored ties for the highest for the season.

Mount Olive will return to action April 20 when the Trojans will host rival Limestone College at the Ray McDonald Sr Sports Complex. It will also be senior day for the Trojans. Face-off is set for 12 p.m.
