No. 12 Mount Olive Rolls Past Emmanuel 22-6 In Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The 12th-ranked No. 3 seeded University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated the No. 6 seed Emmanuel College Lions 22-6 in the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER

  • Mount Olive won the opening faceoff but a turnover off the FO win allowed Emmanuel to find the back of the net 14:23 into the game.
  • The Trojans tied the game back up three minutes later off the stick of Thatcher Clark and the offense heated up.
  • UMO then went on a scoring run that saw a Connor Watson hat trick, and scores by Blake Tallon, Nathan Bradley, and Austin Robinson to extend the lead to 8-1.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Mount Olive came out in the second and continued the offensive firepower as Braydon Hickey scored the opening salvo 42 seconds into the quarter.
  • Max Quinn added the second goal in the run four seconds later as the Trojans won the faceoff and quickly scored their 10th goal of the contest.
  • UMO went onto add three more goals by Sullivan (10:04), Clark (9:41), and Tyler Keele (8:41), before Emmanuel was able to stop the bleeding momentarily.
  • The Lions were able to sneak a goal home at the seven-minute mark and take a scoring drought away in the quarter as the game moved to a 13-2 advantage for UMO.
  • Tim De Ceuster and Brody Sullivan closed out the quarter with the final scores of the half and Mount Olive took a 13 goal cushion into halftime.

THIRD QUARTER

  • The Trojans relaxed the scoring in the third as only four goals were driven home following an Emmanuel score to opening the quarter and Mount olive led 19-3.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Mount Olive scored first in the fourth with Nathan Bradley scoring the 20th goal for the Trojans off a pass from Clark at the 13:45 mark.
  • Lucas Shein added another goal for Mount Olive with just over 12:30 to go in the game to extend the lead to 18 but EC was poised for a late run.
  • The Lions not showing any signs of laying down came back to put home three goals against the Trojans at the 8:33 mark and took the score to 21-6 with just under five to play in the game.
  • The Trojans did, however, have the final say in the game as Evan Floyd unloaded a shot from the top of the box for his first goal of the season and closed the game out.

KEY STATS

  • Connor Watson led the Trojans with five goals and had two assists, while also picking up two groundballs.
  • Andrew Avarello (W: 11-3) played the first half between the pipes and made four saves on six shots faced.
