No. 11 Mount Olive Shuts Down Catawba Indians 10-5

Mount Olive, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive No. 11 men's lacrosse team defeated the Catawba Indians in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive won the opening faceoff and scored the first goal of the game at the 7:15 mark by Nick Peterson. The Indians answered back quickly to tie the score with 5:15 remaining in the first quarter. Conner Watson found Nick Peterson as Peterson put the ball in the back of the net to help the Trojans take the lead 2-1 as the first quarter drew to a close.

In the second quarter, Caleb Hippensteel won the faceoff for the Trojans but the Indians were able to cause a turnover to gain back the possession. Christian Norrie found the back of the net for the Indians and tied the game 2-2 with 12:02 remaining left in the game. It did take long for the Trojans to answer back by adding four more goals in the remainder of the second quarter only allowing the Indians to add in two. UMO took a 6-3 advantage into the break.

In the third quarter, Mount Olive played solid offensively and defensively.  The Trojans outscored Catawba 2-1 as Tyler Keele got the scoring started off with 13:02 on the clock with an assisted goal by Chance Urban. Catawba was able to answer, but Trojans were ready with one more goal from Conner Watson to stay in the lead 8-4 at the end of the third quarter. 

In the final quarter, Mount Olive's Tim Collins scored with 12:19 remaining to put the Trojans up by five. Mount Olive added one more to the scoreboard leading 10-4 with 6:29 remaining. The Trojans were able to shut down the Indians defensively only allowing them to score one more. Mount Olive closed the game out and took home the 10-5 win.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Conner Watson with three goals. Caleb Hippensteel won 16-18 faceoffs and led the Trojans with ten groundballs.

CATAWBA LEADERS
The Catawba Indians were led Christian Norrie with two goals.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game was in the second quarter when the Trojans took a three-point lead and only allowed the Indians to score two more goals the remainder of the game.

Mount Olive will return to action on February 22 when the Trojans are back on the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex to face Seton Hill. The first face-off is set for 12 p.m.
