Mount Olive Rallies For 1-1 Draw With USC-Aiken

Trevor Knight found the back of the net in the 43rd minute as the regionally fifth-ranked University of Mount Olive rallied to draw with USC-Aiken Saturday night in Aiken, S.C. Overtime was cancelled due to lightning and thunder in the area.

Mount Olive (2-0-2) conceded the game's first goal in the third minute off a corner by USC-Aiken (2-1-1). Nathan Shanko was able to sneak a shot past the Trojan keeper and gave the Pacers the lead.

The Trojans attempted to even the score and get on the board in the 10th minute but USC-Aiken saved the opportunity. Mount Olive was not kept off the board in the first period however, due to Knight. Phillip Seamster found Knight in the 42nd minute and the two connected for The Trojans first goal and the game drew even.

In the second period the Trojans attempted to take the lead and the game in the 86th minute. The shot was saved and set up a corner kick for Mount Olive and found a Trojan but the shot was just wide and regulation ended.

As thunderstorms rolled into the area and lightning was spotted overtime was cancelled and the game ended after the second period.

Nick Bernsdorf had six saves in goal for the Trojans.

Mount Olive returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba College in a non-conference matchup. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
