Trojans Fall To Emmanuel 1-0

The regionally fifth-ranked University of Mount Olive had a late chance to tie the game in the 84th minute but fell to Emmanuel College 1-0 in Conference Carolinas men's soccer Saturday afternoon at Amon Field.

The Trojans (2-2-2 Overall, 0-1-0 Conference Carolinas) had scoring opportunities early in the match as both Sean Lockett (4:40) and Cooper Gaypia (5:56) had shots in the first five minutes. The attack started an offensive outburst that saw Mount Olive out shoot the Lions (2-2-1, 1-1-0) 7-to-1 in the first 30 minutes of the first period. The Trojans also had four corner kicks in the attack before Emmanuel broke the streak with a shot in the 31st minute.

The half ended with neither team in the lead however that changed in the second period.

Gaypia in the 79th minute used his head to try and sneak a shot past the Lion keeper but just missed a goal as the Emmanuel goal keeper was able to save the shot and keep the game deadlocked.

Emmanuel's Cole Redman broke into the score column in the 83rd minute on a chip shot floater over the Trojan keeper's head that hit off the crossbar and bounced just past the line despite a diving save attempt and the Lions took the lead.

Mount Olive was able to force a corner kick with seven minutes left in the game, however they were unable to find an open Trojan and fell 1-0 to Emmanuel College.

Nick Bernsdorf and Adam Lawrence both shared time in goal for the Trojans. Bernsdorf played the first period and Lawrence the second.

Mount Olive will return to action this Wednesday as they host Francis Marion in a Non-conference match at Amon Field. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
