Mount Olive Drops Overtime Heartbreaker To Anderson 3-2

Edrisa Chune scored his first goal of the season but it was not enough as University of Mount Olive lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Anderson University 3-2 Wednesday afternoon in Anderson, S.C. in non-conference men's soccer. The Trojans scored two goals in the first period but were unable to hold off the Anderson offensive who came alive in the second period.

Mount Olive (3-8-2) found the back of the net first in the fifth minute on a beautiful feed from Cody Suite that went right over the defensive back line of Anderson (6-6) and right into the waiting foot of Edrisa Chune. Chune beat the keeper to his left side and into the back of the net and the Trojans took the early lead.

Shelby Lickliter added a second goal for the Trojans in the 34th minute off a powerful cross from Nikoli Iotov. The cross landed perfectly in front of a wide open Lickliter on the right side of the net where he put the shot past the diving keeper right into the near upper 90 and extend the Mount Olive Lead.

The Trojans looked comfortable going into halftime with a 2-0 lead over the home Trojans but Anderson had other plans.

Anderson in the second period scored two goals just 16 minutes apart. Andre Carle scored the first goal in the 60th minute and the equalizer came from Lars Zimmerman in the 76th minute.

Mount Olive had two opportunities just before the end of regulation horn sounded with :47 left on the clock, but the Anderson keeper made two saves to push the game to extra time.

In overtime, Anderson wasted no time off a Trojan foul to set up a set piece. A long free kick into the box found the head of Mangus Larsen who headed the ball to Zimmerman for his second goal of the game and the game-winner just 35 seconds into extra time.

The Trojans will play on short rest as they will travel to Tigerville, S.C. to take on North Greenville as Mount Olive heads back into conference play. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
