Men's Soccer Rallies For 3-3 Tie At Belmont Abbey

Aaron Norris scored a goal with :27 left in the game to send the University of Mount Olive into extra time however, the Trojans were unable to find the golden goal as the match ended in a 3-3 draw after double overtime against Belmont Abbey College. The second period saw an offensive outburst in which five goals were scored.

Mount Olive (4-8-3 Overall, 2-4-1 Conference Carolinas) scored the only goal of the first period at the 28:00 mark. Trevor Knight tucked a ball behind the Crusader keeper off a rebound and put the Trojans on top first. No one scored for the remainder of the half but the second period saw its fair share of goals.

Belmont Abbey (3-7-4, 2-5-2) broke into the scores column in the 52nd minute when Nick Fuller blasted a shot from the left side to even the score at one.

The Trojans did not lie down and fought back to regain the lead as Dauda Sanoh put Mount Olive back up in the 69th minute.

The Crusaders countered and quickly scored two quick goals within 2:49 as the lead shifted for the third time. Mount Olive's offensive looked to create one more chance as time ticked away in the second period and as the final minute was almost gone Norris found the net. He scored the tying goal at the 88:33 mark from the deep right side and snuck it in to force overtime.

In both the second overtime Mount Olive had a scoring opportunity on corner kick with 1:43 to go but were unable to find an open player for the golden goal and the match ended in a draw. The draw was their third on the season but, the first for the Trojans in conference play.

Jared Miller had his first career game start in a Trojan uniform as the keeper and compiled four saves and played the entire match. Miller had previous served as the team's manager last season and part of this season prior to being activated due to injuries at the goal keeper position.

Mount Olive will return home Saturday to Amon Field to host Limestone College in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time from Mount Olive is set for 4 p.m.
