Men's Soccer Defeats Erskine 2-1

Mount Olive fought back after allowing the first goal of the match to comeback and beat Erskine College 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Due West, S.C. for conference carolinas men's soccer. Dauda Sanoh converted a game-tying penalty kick in the first half.

Mount Olive (5-2 Overall, 4-0 Conference Carolinas) surrendered the first goal in the 36th minute as Erskine's (3-4-1, 2-1-1) Joe O'Neill found the back of the net. Eight minutes later the Trojans struck back. A Flying Fleet foul in the box gave Mount Olive a penalty kick chance. Sanoh took the shot for the Trojans and was able to sneak his shot home and tie the game at one. 

Neither team found the go a head goal in the remainder of the first half. 

Moments into the second half Cooper Gaypia broke the tie with a goal in the 57th minute, unassisted, and Mount Olive took the lead. The Trojans held off any chance of a Flying Fleet comeback and took the match 2-1.

Nick Bernsdorf collected four saves in goal for Mount Olive. Mount Olive edged out Erskine in shots 15-to-12. Gaypia and Malick Chune led the team with four shots a piece.

Mount Olive will remain on the road as the Trojans head to Charlotte, N.C. to take on Queens Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
