Stefan Faria's Overtime Goal Lifts Trojans Past Emmanuel 1-0

Freshman Stefan Faria picked a good time to score his first collegiate goal as his game winner in the fifth minute of overtime gave University of Mount Olive a 1-0 victory over Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas men's soccer Saturday at Franklin Springs, Ga. The match was the Trojans' regular season finale.

Mount Olive (8-8-0 overall, 6-4-0 Conference Carolinas) outshot Emmanuel (5-7-3, 3-7-2) 15-8, but neither team had a shot in the overtime until the Trojans were awarded a corner kick at the 93:42 mark. Fernando Tacuri served the ball into from the right corner and the ball bent to Sean Lockett in front of the goal. Lockett's header caromed off the crossbar, but Faria put home the rebound at 94:17 to snap the Trojans' six-match losing skid and end the regular season on a winning note.

UMO goalkeeper Nick Bernsdorf recorded two saves as the Trojans recorded their fourth shutout of the season.

Mount Olive is the No. 4 seed in the 2015 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Tournament and will play host to No. 5 seed King Tuesday in the first round. The Trojans defeated the Tornado 2-0 October 4 at Bristol, Tenn. Match time is 4 p.m. at Amon Field.
