UMO Men's Soccer Drop Double Overtime Thriller To Francis Marion 3-2

Florence, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive fell on opening day to Francis Marion 3-2 in double overtime in non-conference men's soccer Saturday night.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

First Half

Francis Marion got on the boards early with a goal in the 13th minute as a chip shot bounced just over the Trojan keeper's hands. Score line remained 1-0 for the remainder of the half.

Second Half

Mount Olive took the momentum back as the Trojans struck early in the second half. Freshman Dakotah Casale knotted the game up at one with a shot from 11 yards out and the visiting 11 were on the board.

The Patriots struck back in the 67th minute as an Oliver Drankenhammer shot put Francis Marion up 2-1.

In the final minute of regulation, Mount Olive looked for the equalizer. Casale again answered for the Trojans as Freshman Jonathan Alexandersson's shot attempt was saved, but the rebound found Casale in the box to force extra time.

1st Overtime

Neither team could crack the tie in the first extra time period. Mount Olive avoided the game ending in the first OT after an offside call waved off an FMU goal in the 95th minute.

2nd Overtime

The final shot of the match came four and a half minutes into the final overtime period. FMU's Gael Mabiala found the back of the net from 17 yards out and the Patriots edged out the Trojans.

Key Stats

Casale led the Trojans with three shots and two goals.
Alexandersson finished the match with two shots, one on goal, and one assist. 
In goal, senior Nick Bernsdorf collected three saves and surrendered three goals off six shots.
